Brother MFC-L2720DW L2740DW Toner Counter Reset – TN2345

For some reason every now and again when a new toner is installed in the Brother MFCL2720DW or MFCL2740DW the reset switch isn’t triggered and the toner counter doesn’t get reset. The following is a manual reset for you printer that you can use to reset the counter.

  1. Open the front cover of your Brother MFC laser printer where you can access its toner cartridge.
  2. Press and hold the Hash (#) button for about 5 seconds to see the toner menu on the screen.
  3. Select the toner you need to reset ( For the TN2345 use TNR-HC or for the TN2315 use TNR-STD-A.).
  4. Select YES to reset.
  5. Close the front cover.
  6. DONE.

Thanks. I have tried your suggestion, but unfortunately this does not work. As there are no tactile buttons, I can only press where the #button should be. However I guess that this hidden button only works when it lits up.

Having the same issue as koeno. Won’t recognize me pressing the #. Have the Brother MFC-L2720DW

Hi Shulessjo Things to note – Be sure to have the front cover OPEN (the one to access the toner/drum) and make sure to press the hash or pound key for at least 5 seconds(till the reset menu pops up).
Please let me know how you get on.

    1. Easyink Support says:

You will have to remember where the # key is from when it is lit up. (from memory going to the fax option will light up the keyboard).

Thank you very much. I wasn’t even close to 1200 pages printed when it locked me out and said replace toner. The reset worked great for my MFC-L2470DW printer with the TN-630 cartridge. The test print was of great quality so not sure why it said to replace the toner. I will be interested to see how many pages I get after this reset. Thanks again for the information. – Brad (Canada)

I have the MFC-L2740DW with TN-630 and was wondering which reset to press? There are plenty of options none of which are listed here. what did you do?

  2. Aje says:

The trick not mentioned is to press the detail button if you see that at the top of the screen at the right, next to “Cover is open” message. Press the details, then hold the # and it worked for my MFC-L2720DW thank you!

    Can’t find a fix anywhere.

Once I got to the menu, I didn’t know which one to reset, so I reset all of the options. Seems to work. Thank you for the # info.

Hi, Do you have a reset for MFC L2713DW, i’m in Australia.

I have done the reset drum of up & OK but can’t get to a toner reset.

The toner cartridge has a chip aswell.

    1. Easyink Support says:

      Hi Abby

Not sure on that series. At this point I don’t have any idea what the new chip series is going to behave like.

      Sorry I couldn’t help.

  7. Tracy says:

Worked great for me even though it seemed to take a little longer than 5 seconds pressing where the hash mark was not lit up. And I used the tip that the menu would be found under “Details” on the screen. Thanks much, I desperately needed to continue printing late at night! MFCL2740DW

For the MFC-L2730DW the toner reset is as follows:

    1- Open toner/drum cover
2- Press (do not hold) the back arrow and the Red Cross at the same time.
3- Press only the back arrow very quickly after.
    4- Select TNR-STD
    5- Press yes
    6- Bob’s your uncle
